When it comes to combating spam, there is more than one good solution for spam protection. Below, we’ll outline some of the most popular solutions currently within the industry.

Application based Spam Filtering:

When it comes to fighting spam on web hosting accounts, one program rises above the rest and that is SpamAssassin. SpamAssassin is the most commonly recognized program that can be integrated to work with mail servers to automatically remove spam as it comes into your web hosting account, even before it drifts into your webmail or email client within your web hosting account.

Protocol based Spam Filtering:

The next, slightly more aggressive way of blocking spam within your web hosting account, is by using what is commonly referred to as reputational based filtering. This is done with technologies such as DomainKeys, SPF (Sender Policy Framework), and RBLs (Real-time Block Lists). If the previous application based spam filtering didn’t work, this definitely will.

As you can see there are a myriad of ways to prevent spam within your web hosting account, while keeping spam at bay. However, they are always devising new ways of delivering spam, so you no one solution can be perfect, while still delivering the results required.
